Nice.
Read and share your firsthand thoughts please.
Should probably fork this. Just not sure which post I should fork from.
Without reading, I am sure their facts are well documented and researched, as it is all currently in the public domain. All I can talk is from memory (which is going back 31 years and beyond), as well as my personal subjective views based on what I learned and experienced.
I can share my personal experience and learning about the facts. Just to put things into context, as a צוגעקומענער who's Yiddish was nowhere as fluent as it is today, my first encounter with this story (as was many, if not most others) was during
this sicha (3:30:27 is where the story of the seforim starts, though the entire sicha which starts around 3:16:40 is related to the issues at stake).
When the farbrengen was over, I was totally clueless about what was going on. At that point I have never before even heard of B. Gourary, nor did I know what he looked like. It didn't add to clarity that the Rebbe was purposely semi-vague during the sicha, and put two events together as if they were related, talking of 3 people who took seforim, and 2 who returned them - which was a totally different story.
