turns out the 40k isn't all that great. It's 25k signup 5k for adding an au and 10k annual bonus for spending 25k.

Interesting observation by VFTW,
Buried in the card details, though, is this clue about the future of the combined United/Continental program:

Your miles don’t expire* Your miles don’t expire as long as you are a Cardmember with no limit to the number of miles you can earn.

Continental miles didn’t expire. United miles expired after 18 months of inactivity. This tidbit means that the combined program will have expiring miles.

I only noticed the MP cardholder restriction, I couldn't find the CO OP restriction... can you point me in the right direction please? Thanks!

Perhaps, or perhaps it's just a new UA benefit for now and the combined program may go with CO's policy.
At any rate, it seems there will be some sort of new CO offer soon as well.

With the program going away, why would they offer one?

Dunno, but all indications are that something (maybe just a refresh of CO OPP with new benefits?) will be coming out soon.

According to gleff the restriction is only on previous UA MP holders (he makes no mention of CO OPP). That is the same as what I could tell from perusing the T&Cs.

This card (and signup offer) sucks, there was really nothing to look forward to.

Rumors have it there's another card coming out in like a week, if it's anything like this then shame on Chase.

If someone with current (or even recent) CO/UA approvals gets approved for this, please let us all know.

It looks like this replaced the three tiered MP card system. About a year ago I opted to bump up to the second tier MP card as it gives double miles for gas groceries and dining and an annual 5K bonus which in my situation as a frequent spender and an infrequent flyer made the most sense and well worth the extra $30 I pay for it over the 1st tier card. Is anyone still able to access the applications for the three old MP cards?
