Interesting. My understanding is that Friday in Hawaii and Sunday in Japan are two sides of the same question (if you hold like R Y.M. Tuckachinsky or the Chazon Ish). I guess the chabad minhag must be based on a third shitah (that you go based on the world's dateline). I thought no one really held like that

That's what comes out of a 2 hour long pilpul (combo of following the actual dateline and local custom), but the process and rationale is fascinating.

I guess I'd have to hear the shiur because it sounds very strange and FWIU after rav kasher said it, basically no one held of it

Seems like it's not because they follow minhag hamakom but rather the third shitah of the bnei tzion which places the halachik dateline near the international dateline
