So have none of you guys been to the tuna auction at 5 in the morning? Am I the only meshuginer who wants to do this?

I went to the Tuna Auction, it was very worth it, go extra early so you get in.

I've always wanted to, but the dates haven't worked out on my 2 trips to NRT.

And now to throw this thread waaaay off topic- MAZAL TOV DAN on 42000 posts!!!! Can we celebrate with a write up of the 42 best ways to use SPG or AMEX points? ;) (should we start a new thread to discuss this?)

I wouldn't bother with the SkyTree, waste of time.
You can try a single act of Kabuki theater at kabukiza. It's completely different from any type of show I've seen before and 100% authentic japanese.

surprised this thread hasn't blown up yet with people who booked the Delta sale from LAX. I certainly did, and that brought me here.

Any recommendations amongst Tokyo's SPG properties? Priorities are location and amenities. Close to the kosher food/chabad a perk, but I can't be picky I'm sure

I also went.  It was pretty incredible.  The auction will be over by the time the trains begin working so you have to take a taxi.  It is all the way in the back by the Atlantic Ocean where the ships come in.  There is an auctioneer and dozens of bluefin tuna arranged in rows with the tails cut so that the bidders can see the color and get a small taste.  The Japanese are very polite so if you stand there quietly without drawing any attention to yourself they won't ask you to leave even though there are posters everywhere saying you are forbidden from being there.  I got kicked out when the flash went off on my camera by accident but even still they were very gracious while kicking me out  :P  Also, saying the word 'sumimasen' and giving a quick bow can defuse most any situation.

Got there to late  :'( :'( :'(

As per hotel concierge I got there at 4:25am. All vests (120) where handed out by then.
So I guess you should get there at 4:00am, maybe earlier.
Uber / taxi is your only option of getting there so early in the morning. The Conrad is walking distance.

It's still cold there now, but assuming you don't mind and assuming you don't care/hold of 2 days of shabbos why not?

Does sake require a hechsher, and if so, what brands in Japan are (if any)?

According to the OU and the CRC sake does indeed require certification.  The CRC maintains a list of recommended beverages including many options for sake.

The list can be found here.  www.crcweb.org/LiquorList

ask the local rabbi. We had sake at his shabbos table.
