Actually just got back from Japan on Tues. Will post a TR shorty. In terms of the dateline, I actually asked a Shayla about it (from the Chabad of Kobe when I got there, didn't know it was an issue until I got on the plane)
Anyways I left on Sunday of last week in the AM, in terms of davening and tallis and tefillin, I met someone on the plane who told me that you daven once on the way there and twice on the way back. That didn't sit well with me 100% since if I made a mistake then I would miss the opportunity for tefillin.
basically, the flight took off at around 8am Sunday and landed Monday afternoon at around 2pm. I davened before I took off, and a second time (since it was another day) when I landed at NRT.
it's kind of interesting, even though it didn't get 100% dark during the flight. But I was told that the idea of it not getting dark doesn't really make a difference because your still crossing the date line, and it is a new day.

On the way back, we left at around 7:30pm Tuesday (davened earlier that morning) and we arrived in JFK at 6:30pm on Tuesday, so didn't have any issues that way. This was kind of spur of the moment thinking since I didn't realize that it actually was a shayla before I left. Obviously ask your LOR for all halachic q's.

Would be more exciting if they had a Japanese menu and chef.
I'm curious to see what kind of menu they have. When i was there you got whatever they served.

Agree. How awesome would that be.

Who wants schnitzel in Japan? :)

Could be, but in the end of the day I'm not going to Japan for shnitzel.

Scared to ask the cost.

As Jewish people that keep kosher, when traveling internationally, i think being able to get kosher food at all is a plus. Obviously to have authentic local food would be nice, but end of the day, anything would do.

Depends what you are into.

You can go see some of the temples/shrines, you can go to Akihabara (electronic area), check out Chabad. See my TR for what i did when i was there. Maybe you can get some ideas.

I was there in February and stayed in the Hyatt Regency (I paid points) its a beautiful hotel located near the train station that you can take from the airport. They have a tour company that works with the hotel. I took the half day tour which we got to see most of the main attractions. I strongly recommend it. Chabad has fantastic food in my opinion the chef is amazing!

Did you have any issues with the language barrier at the hotel? I had a very hard time there.

Nothing at all. They helped me out with everything including storing Chabads delivery when we initially arrived.

Personally i went to that one.
I went to the one with Chana's Place a FULL meal is around 3000JPY which is less then 30 bucks in Takanawa. I used the trains to get around as well as the occasional taxis.
