Did that work for all the different lines?
It worked on all JR lines besides for the express and shinkansen, I think it worked on the hokkaido lines too.

PS, I do recall people telling me that I should have purchased a real pass while overseas. (it seems to average about $240 for an unlimited 7 day pass that covers the shinkansen as well, seems like a good deal to me if you will be doing more than one cross country trip)

I tried looking into something like that, but there did not seem to be a pass that included the subway, trains etc. So would have needed passes for each line.

Thinking about stopping over in Tokyo Tlv - west cost. Flight would get in at 7:30am, leave at 5:30pm- enough time to make a stopover in Tokyo worth it?

Yes
Recommendations for such a short stopover?

Also anywhere in NRT to store hand luggage?
I'm hoping OS to ANA we won't have to pick up our luggage and recheckin....

Meal at chabad; sumo if possible; buy pearls; pick a garden, etc.

Shouldn't be an issue to through check luggage.

i would disagree about the meal at chabad. imo, it should not be a priority for a shortish stopover

I found the meal at main chabad to be very good food; a made-to-order super fresh meal.

Not to mention that the felafel at the restaurant is excellent.

Thoughts, @Dan?

Won't be able to do a lot in 6 hours, not if you're flying into NRT.

Yup, both are fresh and quite delicious. Would definitely hit up one on a 10 hour stop

At chabad they really are open to making anything and the chef is quite talented.  Felt like being on one of these food shows watching them invent and whip up a dish on the spot.

Depends where.  It's just 55 minutes from NRT to Tokyo Tower.  Chabad was 90.

If only they had a better view into the kitchen.

i was there (not by falafel) twice and had everything on the menu both times (different menus). very hit and miss. some things were delicious while some were borderline inedible.

either way, imo, shouldnt be a priority

Menu? What menu?
They just asked us what we liked and the food was quite good.

It's not a must see attraction, but the train line from NRT to chabad is very inexpensive and if you have 10 hours I don't see why its not worth a stop.
