I've spent shabbos at chabad in Tokyo and Kobe.
Anything specific you want to know?

either way, imo, shouldnt be a priority
+1

If it's someone's first and possible last time in a city I can't imagine wasting any time on food, unless everything else is closed, or the food is something unique to that city, which is not the case here.

There is plenty to do in 10 hours you will have  a packed schedule without the food.

Chabad can deliver food to you as well. Just ask him to meet you on at one of your stops. He charges a delivery fee but its a few bucks. The food is definitely worth it.

There are two Chabads in Tokyo. I wrote an email to Rabbi Edery, he didn't answer so far. I may have to attend the corp. Chabad :) Some comments online indicate that they don't always have a minyam even on shabbos? Is that so?
Did you go to King Falafel? or to Chana's Place? I would hate to shlep someone to find the place closed. My better half will kill me.  ::)
In Kobe did you arrange it with the shul or you stayed nearby?
Many thanks for your help.

R' Sudakevich had a minyan when we were there.
Great crowd. Meals were adequate, nothing fancy, but great company and conversation.

Ate by both places, called beforehand to confirm they'd be open.  Both have excellent food.

I was in Kobe 10 years ago to help out Chabad there.  The shul there is sefardi style and I stayed by the Rabbi.

Menu? What menu?
They just asked us what we liked and the food was quite good.

It's not a must see attraction, but the train line from NRT to chabad is very inexpensive and if you have 10 hours I don't see why its not worth a stop.
when i was there in march, there was also a group they were cooking for. so although the food was cooked to order, they gave us choices of only 2 mains each night.
first night was ahi tuna steak which was delicious, and spaghetti and meatballs which was borderline inedible. he also gave us some seasoned lotus root which was phenomenal.
second night we had the salmon which was good and schnitzel which was eh.
soup was just ok.

so imo, if one was staying in tokyo, absolutely he should go to the restaurant for some fresh cooked food, but i dont think its something unique which must be tried with limited time (like going to sal meijer in amsterdam etc)

I plan on spending 2-3 weeks in Japan and was wondering if anyone here has done that and has any tips and what they did as far as food goes. I'm leaving from Israel.
Thank you

just curios reason being long lines? far from city?
According to the guidebooks instead of going into Tokyo which is too far for such a short stopover you can go to Narita city. It looks interesting on the pics.

We're going in a few weeks. Tokyo has kosher places to eat in. Otherwise, take food with you. Once you run out: Rent apartments with a kitchen: bring a frying pan. Omelet, pasta, tuna/sardines/other kosher fish locally acquired, veggies will be on the menu. You can probably use their rice cooker if you like rice. Ask your LOR.

Rabbi Edery and family never answered any of numerous emails or calls (I was flying business with 140lb allowance, but only had a backpack, I know how desperate shluchim are for cholov yisrael from NY etc, so I always offer) I went to king falafel 3 times (long walk every time :-( ) But found them closed.

I stand corrected. The rebbetzin did return my call, but too late, I already booked near the other shul.

I will be in Tokyo from Tues to Sunday morning. The plan is to hit up The Shibuya Crossing, spend time in Ginza, Rippongi, Tsujiki Market, Shinjuku etc..

The questions is: Are these places/neighborhoods within a remote location that for ease we should be staying in one place and commute or should we be staying in each respective neighborhood each night?

Thanks!
