Definitely ask, but not to argue with Dan candy might not be their number one request.   It might be as easy as a book or a brick of cream cheese.  Shabbos before Pesach I distinctly remember a Rebbitzen bringing out tons of candy using the upcoming Chag as an excuse to rid the house of excess sugar.
Was just an example. I'm sure dairy is always needed, but that's trickier.

+1 and send regards please.
Better yet, ask if you can bring them anything from the US. You have no idea what some candy means to kids in farflung places.

+1 yeh this can mean more then a donation..

Not to mix in to your trip:), but coming g from israel is even better for them...
(As there from israel)
Anyway enjoy your trip and if you need any tips feel free to ask.

I echo that. Wear your kippah with pride. You could even wear your tzitzit out. When I lived there for the year, I had to teach my Japanese coworkers the Japanese word for Jew(ish). They had never even heard of us. Chalk it up to an island mentality.

So it seems like there are 3 places to stay for shabbat in Japan:
  • Tokyo - R' Sudakevich (official Chabad)
  • Tokyo - R' Rabbi Binyomin Edery (other Chabad)
  • Kobe - Ohel Shelomo/ R' Shmuel Vishedsky
Tokyo seems the obvious choice, but is there any preference? Both get minyanim, ok food?
Has anyone been to Kobe? Is it a nice atmosphere?

I was in Kobe for a Shabbos many moons ago.

Nice community, though I don't care for the long sefard davening.

R' Sudakevich's Chabad House was great.

Based on my experience, R'Sudakevich will probably have a minyan.  There are a variety of hotels nearby and there is plenty of food.

Kobe is also nice.  They had a minyan when we were there and there is a great waterfall nearby for a Shabbos walk.

Sheraton was perfect for Shabbos.

Sheraton was perfect for Shabbos.
It's the most common option,  but I can't speak from experience. As a heads up, some folks said the APA wouldn't let then use the stairs and some of the AirBnB's have electronic keypads for security.

Sheraton was perfect for Shabbos.

The Prince Sakura is also close by. They were very accommodating for our Shabbos needs.

Did you stay at the Sheraton beyond Shabbat? Is it centrally located? I have enough starpoints for 4 nights (fifth night free), trying to figure out if it makes sense staying there for so long.

I have  :D One of my inspirations for this trip...
I wanted to hear from someone who has spent more then just Shabbat at the Sheraton, if they found it convenient...

Where do you recommend on staying?
I remember you wrote upwards in this thread that you stayed at one of the Hyatts... And Dan stayed at the PH.
Is it worth it even if I have no status?

Most recently I stayed at the Andaz. They are known for. It upgrading regardless of status, however after a back and forth with them they agreed to provide kosher breakfast for free.

Stayed at the Conrad as well. Location is not good aside from proximity to the fish market.
