So basically they were forced into it, because of a loss in customers and all the other big boys have been doing it for years.

T&C's state free award night earn status but nothing about nights booked with points. Was wondering if there is a difference.

nope nights booked with points are free night awards. No need to get technical. PUTPAC that will solve your issue right away
