How about both?
+1
What does one have to do with the other? I B"H earn a few hundred thousand (real) points a month, and at the same time I'm happy to get dedicated CS when booking via OTA. Besides (I'm gonna sound ultra-jewish), but why should I give business to one company who gives me nothing in return, when there's another company who's offering to share some of their profits in appreciation for using them?

You can't book on Google flights. It redirects to the airline or OTA. I personally use Google flights to find the flight I want and book with a TA I have a relationship with. There are somethings a good TA will do that an OTA won't.
This is what I do as well
Life isn't about checking the boxes. Nobody cares.

1) Who said anything about Kayak? We're discussing Expedia and Orbitz.
2) What's there not to get? You earn rewards on every booking. Flight, car and hotel alike.

2. Yes.
How did it work? You received some kind of gold status from the citadel? How does citadel know about your Expedia gold status?

I just booked a flight on Priceline with Ukraine Int'l Airlines. (For some reason Ukraine often doesn't show up on Expedia/Orbitz). After calculating the charges, I noticed that I did not receive the child discount (which I clearly know should have applied). I knew they don't give the option to book INFs, but was unaware that children don't automatically get discounts based on DOB. Oh well, here's my chat with they're unbeatable CS...

Hi, my name is Clark and I'll be assisting you today.

hi

I understand you want to confirm the discount for your reservation.
Let me check what options may be available for you at this time. I am locating your reservation so we can review it together. One moment please.
May I have your trip or itinerary number please?

xxx-xxx-xxx-xx

Thank you. Let me pull up the reservation.

ok

I will review it here.

Thanks

You are welcome.
Thank you for patiently waiting.
Children more than 2 years of age and less than 18 years are charge the same for adults.

not true
under 12 gets CNN pricing with PS
aka Ukraine International Airlines

I am sorry, but those prices will need to be booked directly with the airlines.

I saw it on the airline website and on a TA's GDS
Can I ask what booking class I have on the outbound?
K or E?

Your tickets are Economy Class.

I get that. But what's the exact booking class? (not cabin)

You will have to check that directly with the airline because it is Economy Class on our end.

But which fare class in economy?
Economy has many booking classes

You can check that directly with the airline. The booking class on our end is Economy.

You don't have access to see the fare class?
Aren't you the one who booked the ticket?

The fare class for your reservation only appears to be an Economy Class.

Thanks for answering that for the forth time. You are really smart! But Ukraine International Airlines has 11 different booking classes in economy. Which one is this?

Okay, I checked here it is an Economy Class K.

Thanks!!!

You are welcome.
What else can I help you with, -------?

And according to my knowledge, there should be a discount for a child (CNN fare)
If you need help checking that, perhaps you can ask a supervisor for help?

Regarding that, you will need to book that directly with the airline for the discount for children under the age of 18.

Not under 18, under 12!!!
Very big difference
Every travel agent can do CNN fares, not just the airline

I am sorry, but we have provided the summary of charges when you entered the age of the children to your request and the same amount charges for all children more than 2 years of age on our website as to adults.
Hi, -------, your Chat box is still open, can I still help you with something? Let me know if you are still available to chat?

I didn't book with the airline, because I wanted 24 hour cancellation flexibility. Due to your incompetence to apply a simple child discount, I think I will need to use that flexibilty
What a shame

I am sorry, but there is no child discount when you book it on our website because you will have to book with the airline directly in order to get that discount.
If you entered the age of the child on our website when booking, the same amount will be charge since that is not applied on our website.

As I've mentioned, thanks for confirming the incompetence of Priceline. In 2018, I think it's time to offer child/infant discounts online. You are way behind your competition....

Thank you for that information but the tickets prices are already discounted.
Hi, --------, your Chat box is still open, can I still help you with something? Let me know if you are still available to chat?

Oh well, there doesn't seem to be any willingness to try to fix these things here. I guess I'll just have to stick with Expedia/Orbitz in the meantime....

Interesting, a few months ago, they were blocked out of Sabre for a short while. IIRC, they owed them money or something like that. But they're back for a while already.

They came back to Sabre with an unannounced GDS fee, and then they started charging for all

I am. But I use OTA's once in a while on non-commission routes in certain cases. (rarely compared to my GDS bookings)
In this case, as I was playing with the inventory (TLV-KBP), I lost the K class on this flight. I noticed that PL was still showing it (are they Amadeus?) and surprisingly confirmed it. Only afterward did I realize that I paid full fare for the CNN

GDS gives the major benefit of holds & much more

I think PL is 1S

I'm well aware. I'm using a GDS for a few years already. I book 99% of my tickets (including non-comms) via GDS (unless I'm using miles, of course). But in certain rare cases, I prefer OTA's. (One example would be HC, where I don't want to risk an ADM)
