Why do some Jewish communities prohibit women from driving?

What are they worried about? That they'll be so emboldened with the privilege that they'll... what? Get a job?

I've always wondered this. Why is it more 'tznius' for a lady to have to call a cab then drive herself around?

A woman should not be seen outside of her home. Driving a car provides too many opportunities for a woman to enter situations  where a man who isn't her husband may catch a glimpse of her.

No one said "aren't any" it is still a small minority. It was said relative to this thread. We are looking to understand the part of society that has brought the no woman at all into our publications don't let their women drive. They are not properly represented here.

To answer the thread title question, they haven't yet received the psak from Saudi Arabia allowing women to drive.

So... not only can the wives (or, if the wives are on DDF, themselves) not drive, but if they comment on the situation, they'll be ostracized from the community that imposes the prohibition on driving?
