nothing really to add. what happened was, I got a phone call one day from the gabbai of the shteeble asking to meet me, when he came he asked me if its true that my wife drives and I confirmed, so he told me that he was told by the העכערע פענסטר׳ס to kick me out if I don't sign that my wife won't drive in Israel, I told to go fly a kite and he apologized but said that he needs to ask me to stop coming to the shteeble. the end
Incredible.

My understanding is that in Israel most chareidi women do not drive, and in chutz la’aretz only chassidish women do not drive. Is this correct?

Why do some people here care so much if other communities have their תקנות that you don't like, in most of this Chasidis you are not forced to do anything, but if you want to stay in that Chasidis you have to obey their rules.

Because these takanos are slowly starting to creep into other communities and become the 'basic standard' instead of takanos.

My mother drove to pick up her grandkids from school in Israel- school called the folks and said to tell her not to do it again.
She never even got out of the car.

This is a very good reason to be worried about this issue. It is the same with minhagim that become halacha lemoshe misinai and chumrahs that become the baseline of observance.

Not sure where you are referring to, but I can say that in Lakewood the Roshei Yeshiva don't drive but their wives do.

I couldnt have said it better.

True mesora, true halacha moshe m'sinai is no longer the central place of judaism, takanot, chumrot, minhagim etc..

Good point. Personally I don't care...I just find it interesting. Any chasidus out there that doesn't care if women drive?

So it's more tznius to walk to the grocery store than drive? And why would that be?
No but if they need to walk wherever they have to go chances are they'll stay home more.

Are they new rules? Or have they "officially" been in effect for years but are simply being enforced ?
