Depends how long you are renting for.
Some programs credit you per rental, and others per day you rent (I believe AA etc credit, but I'm not renting for extended time so I never looked into it).
Not sure what wrong with promos.
I credit to Miles & More.(As discussed on DDF before)
Good point, I should have mentioned that. My rentals are almost exclusively one-day rentals.
There's nothing wrong with promos, but one-day rentals usually don't qualify.
well in my opinion the most value for rentals would be to keep the points local-meaning if you rent from avis then keep em there if from hertz then for sure and national as well.
Right now hertz has a promo for every day rented you get in additional 100 points besides for the regualr point for dollar. So say you rented for four days at 35$ day youd get a free day ( 400+140points point per dollar)
do the math spend $140 get $35 value =25% or so. could even be more because the points can be used any time.
and if you got the extra 500 points for sign up then your doin just fine !
Another good point. I think your approach works for Hertz, but wouldn't help me for Avis. The general Avis First program only gives you weekend days, which I wouldn't use, and the current Free To Get Away program is for rentals of two days or more.
