Homeowners and flood are separate policies. You can get from the same broker or different ones.

ETA- PM me, may be able to help you out.

You really just need to shop it around. When I bought my house, the cheapest quote I got was from Geico (they don't write HO policies, they broker them). But I was able to find the exact same policy, from the same insurance co as Geico quoted, for cheaper through a different broker.

Also make sure when you are comparing premiums between different companies, you are looking at the same coverage.

who else did you call up besides geico? i would rather call another insurance company who services the policy but shops around, so that they are kind of doing some of the leg work for me

It may all depend on the market. For me they were half as much as everyone else, with same/simmilar coverage.

and shops around with several different companies. Plus you do have to file a claim, they're there to help and post things through that u can't do by yourself.

Call State Farm, Allstate, Liberty Mutual to name a few. Ask around and find out who others use in that area.

-1. Often brokers get better rates. And there are some insurance companies, Narraganset Bay, for instance, that only offer policies through brokers rather than direct.

You don't need to cover more than replacement cost. The land value doesn't burn down with a house.

Different companies will quote different replacement costs

The lender will usually go off the replacement cost stated on the appraisal. You don't really need more than that.
