Thanks, I'm located in California.

I have a homeowners policy, but am selling my place and looking for rental insurance (never had rental insurance before).  I've scheduled some personal property with my homeowners policy --- and am assuming I can do the same with a renter's policy.

Thanks

u can get renters from the same company that u get auto insurance and that may give u a multiple policy discount.
i didnt look up the numbers but i believe i pay about $250 for the year for renters insurance in california.

I have Geico Auto insurance and called up to quote a renters policy. If I get the renters policy with them, the Auto policy will be discounted 3%.

Bringing Back an old thread. Have a question about home owners insurance. Every place is quoting me an amount for replacement cost that they will cover me but then some also saying they gaurentee a 100% of the replacement even if it's higher than that. Did that mean the number they give u is just approximate? If so why do they give you the number at all? And why does it cost more to give you a higher replacement value?

Replacment cost value is the value that it would cost to replace that damaged item, If it said that you are covered for rcv than you should be fine

Thank you. So basically if you are covered for full replacement then the replacment value is how they estimate what the cost will be to determine your premium? Which means I'm better off with a lower number not higher like they make it sound?

No you want full replacement cost
Basically most mid level insurance companies don't give you up front the full replacement cost, instead they give you the actual cash value which they figure based on the price of the item and the age how much it depreciated in value, and then to get the rest of the rcv you need to prove with receipts that shows how much you payed (a big hassle)
The better companies well give you the full rcv up front without holding back any money

100% means that you are guaranteed the full replacement cost up to the limit of the policy
You can have 125% or 150% which will cover 25% or 50% over the limits of the policy

So that replacement cost is the limit and that supercededes the 100 % replacement gaurentee?
