Thoughts on upgrade at St Regis Monarch Beach (California)
« on: July 21, 2011, 11:32:24 AM »
I am using my stay 3, get 1 resort night free at the St Regis Monarch Beach for a one night stay on a Saturday night this August.  I am travelling with my wife, 4 year old and 4.5 month old.

I would love a suite (separate rooms) for the kids, and am wondering what the best way to do this would be.  (Note:  I am only SPG Gold).  Should I / could I:

1) ask the front desk what the going rate is for an upgrade to a suite (probably a lot),

2) ask if I can use 20,000 SPG points to upgrade to a suite (this is the additional amount necessary to upgrade a point reservation to a suite)

3) contact the hotel before I arrive by email and ask about options 1) or 2)

4) do the "$50/$100 trick" with the front desk person. I've never done this before, and am a little nervous considering the front desk area is crowded and there are several people working there that would see it.

Thanks
