I noticed this summer that WestJet flights seem to be the best use for SkyMiles. JFK-YYC direct for around 12K on many dates, which is way less than UA or AC from EWR.

I assume there'd be other useful WestJet redemptions.

Changes to the SkyMiles program:

Starting January 1, 2024, all you will need are Medallion Qualification Dollars (MQDs) to achieve Status. No need to keep track of miles (MQMs) or segments (MQSs) flown.

You will earn MQDs on Delta flights. Additionally, starting January 1, 2024, we are introducing more ways to earn from purchases on an eligible Delta SkyMiles American Express Card, car rentals and hotel stays booked on delta.com and with Delta Vacations.

New Medallion Status Thresholds

 • Silver Medallion: $6,000 MQDs
 • Gold Medallion: $12,000 MQDs
 • Platinum Medallion: $18,000 MQDs
 • Diamond Medallion: $35,000 MQDs

heard Delta Air Lines CEO Ed Bastian and Virgin Atlantic Airways CEO Shai Weiss on Bloomberg today
they are getting some industry award
wasnt listening so closely to the interview but Bastain might have said that they are going to be changing the name of the program from skymiles. might actually be changing to skypesos

Anyone know if we'll really get Choice Benefits if we use the 100K rollover miles to get an extra year of status?

Dan hasn't posted anything on that subject that I've seen. Unless I missed it, I take this as a bad sign.

Dan would wonder why you have that much tied up with Delta (unless you are hub bound) ;)

In answer to your question
Based on the fact that covid rollovers didn't get choice benefits the second year (although those that went from gold to platinum due to rollovers did) I would put the chances at slim

Advice?  I live in Israel, and reach Gold or Platinum Medallion status pretty much every year through MQM/actual miles flown on 3-4 flights per year to the US (primarily Seattle, also NYC).  The new system to achieve elite status ($$$) will ruin that for me.  Anyone know of alternative programs that will still let me achieve status according to miles flown?  Or, would it help if I switch to, say, Flying Blue (KLM) or Virgin, and earn SkyMiles/equivalent through them?  Will I do better switching to United or American programs?  Or even Alaska?  Thanks!
