SPG redemption vs Priceline Name Your Own Price
« on: July 17, 2011, 07:30:10 PM »
I was looking to redeem Starpoints last week in the Newport/Providence area. Focused on the Westin Providence which had no cash and points availability, only 10,000 points per night. This would have translated to 2.9 cents per point at $209.00 per night.
So I tried Priceline and got the Renaissance Providence (also a four star selling at $209.00 ) for $58.00 per night , $71.00 AI per night and saved my 30,000 SPG points.

Did you know that you were going to end up getting the Sheraton Mahwah?

If you are looking for a certain star rating you can check what hotels are in that rating before you bid.

I couldnt find any starwood hotels in area i needed in colorado springs or vail and the ones i did find used so many points.

I was told to do hotwire especially cuz we are on short to almost no budget here... I found some in the 30-40 range mainly 2 star like inn style I guess but it doest tell me name of hotel.... should I go for it? the ratings seem pretty decent. Would love the luxuries but no way can afford it... any feed back?
Anyone ever do the hotwire thing?

Why not try Priceline and bid $40.00 for a three* or higher hotel and see if it works? You can view their three stars, etc first by looking at the hotels on the regular search. Then when you bid you know what the choices are.
