Due to The US House not giving re-authorization to the FAA, currently airlines aren't charging the goverment tax on tickets.
Additionallly Amex has stopped charging tax on points transfers to domestic airlines.
If you were thinking of transferring points to CO, FLAG ect. now is the time...

Cool. How much of a ticket is taxes? Can we get a sample?

Is this for both revenue and award tickets?

FLAG?

All the major airlines have raised ticket prices to negate the tax savings.
I think just Spirit didn't.

But it is a good time to transfer AMEX to CO or DL with no taxes.

Earlier today Delta hadn't raised, seems now they have
Apparently Virgin America, Alaska and Frontier still haven't...

This no tax issue just saved me $200+ .
I booked two one BF award tkts on CO for my wife an I to tlv . I was trying with no avail to not pay the infant 10% charge. Ended up costing $358. I called back tonight, rebooked the baby onto my reservation and the taxes came to about $150.
Called again to cancel the baby on my wifes reservation. Refunded with no probs.

Thank you uncle sam.

(i asked several times why there was any charge at all if the infant was just taxes, after getting $200 off, i wasnt gonna be too pushy.)

I purchased an infant paper ticket from Delta about 2 weeks ago which the taxes were $281.60 for a one way from TLV to JFK in business. I called now and they said that there are no refunds and if I were to book the same ticket now it would be $218.
They said that I can call up the IRS and ask them for a refund.

so, i called to cancel and rebook my infant ticket on a ow mia-jfk-tlv with aa/ly.   i had originally paid $179.  now they want $414... i told them i'm not ready to book it now and hung up.      it seems like they must have sold me a coach ticket for him originally.       am i gonna have problems checking in at the airport? (the flights not until pesach)     should i just rebook it now as a business one and at least save the $150 in taxes and not risk having to pay a ton later on at the airport?

I would call back again and try to get it refunded.

I think you'll be fine.  They care more that it has a ticket that the class its in...after all its not taking up a seat.

i also got this the first time, with aa.   i then read bitbythedog's post and decided to go that route.  it happens to be my wife and i are on different pnr's. so i called and added the infant to hers. then called back and told them i had already put the infant to my wifes and wanted to cancel it on mine... she started saying it's nonrefundable but i explained how i just paid for the baby to go on my wifes etc etc      made $150 on the deal.       might be a bit more difficult to do on one pnr
