Signal Jammer
« on: January 18, 2018, 03:32:11 AM »
Hi guys,
Where could one buy a powerful jammer that blocks cellphones from speaking and data in a rather large room.
I was looking around but it seems that only shady sites sell them.
I understand that it might be illegal some places, but it's not for use in the USA.
Thank you very much.

I don't know where you plan on using it, but whatever you do don't ship it to the US. It's illegal and they actually do hunt people down for this

I don't believe so.
It specifically blocks certain ranges.

If you wont come to shul because you can't use your phone IMHO you shouldn't be there to begin with. See here

If it's not free shipping it's not worth it.

Correct. Even feeling the the phone vibrate is a problem.

Usually the free charging is enough of a incentive.

Probably not. Some of it will probably involve the Rov hounding repeat offenders.

Just want to point out that blocking signals doesn't mean they won't be able to use their phones at all. It'll eliminate the noise perhaps, and some people don't do much on their phones that doesn't involve internet connectivity - but it's not a full solution. The only full solution is not to have it in shul at all.

There's a guy I see in shul every so often that davens shmona esrai in a minute or two, and then sits down and plays some sort of candy crush type of game. And this wasn't a one time occurrence.

I'm pretty sure Reb Levi Yitzchok would have something to say about that...

I'm not saying he shouldn't be there at all. He even learns with the daf yomi shiur before daveneing, something I'm incapable of getting up early enough for. The point is that a jammer doesn't solve that kind of thing.

I would actually like to see this happen, and a case go for a legal challenge. I think shuls (and lehavdil theaters etc.) should get an exemption and allow blocking of cell phone signals.
I've been waiting over 5 years with bated breath for someone to say that!
