what about this- amex has a new prepaid card...
http://email.americanexpress.com/a/hBOLGu9AQB6AAB8cFusAKd24jGT/axp19

1. You can only load $200 onto the card.
2. Cards have a monthly fee.
3. Pain in the @$$ to unload, as it's limited to $200/week and you have to pay ATM fees. Amex also charges a fee for ATM withdrawals (Amex's first ATM withdrawal fee each month is waived)
4. Last but not least: FR risk.

That's for the 50k match, but the other 50k still require $3k spend.

not sure if you are interested in doing this but I came across on fw and figured I would share
"One method I've used in the past is depositing money into offshore online casinos using your credit card. You make a deposit, then withdraw the money and since they can't credit the card back, they issue out a check. The charges will appear as a purchase earning you points. I will say it is a hassle though because of the verification process the casino makes you go through. In addition, they can take weeks to issue out a refund and some credit card companies may charge a foreign transaction fee. The foreign transaction fee is reimbursed by the casino. YMMV on this but for those who really want the points this can be a solution. Just my two cents... "

I got them to extend the spend date by a month, I'm going to probably buy something sold as refundable.

I
had to plead with the SM department called 'social media inquiry'. G'luck, YMMV.

Fairly easy with any store with a long or a lifetime return policy (Macys, Jos A Bank, Costco, Nordstrom, Sams Club, etc).  Just don't earn yourself a ban by abusing it often or you'll be wishing you had played it safe and paid the 6% with PJ.
Beware that with airlines you play a risky game-even when you click for an unrestricted ticket it may be not refundable, just changeable, and you'll be left holding the bag if you don't comb through the hundreds of lines of fare rules.  And it can take multiple phone calls and potentially months to process a refund.
Save your time, I don't answer PM. Post it in the forum and a dedicated DDF'er will get back to you as soon as possible.

Is this true for all airlines? I looked at CO's terms on an unrestricted (B Class) ticket and it clearly said refundable. If I cancel and refund online, why wouldn't it go right back on the card?

There is no general rule for a B fare.  For some routes that is refundable, in others it is non-refundable but with free changes.  In others it is refundable but there is a charge for refunds, and it will say "this fare is refundable" but the fare rules clearly say there is a $400 fee for refund for example.  I have seen all of these examples buried in pages of complicated fare rules.  Note that there isn't even a refundable option on CO.com, just "unrestricted" which doesn't mean refundable necessarily.
Other times airlines change fare rules or make a schedule change that messes up your fare code and changes your rules.  If you don't have the old rules saved you might be put into new rules. Etc, etc.

Bottom line-I'm just telling people to realize you're playing with fire here if you don't know exactly what you're doing.  For most person returning something to a store will be far simpler.

Is doing it over the phone with a competant CSR a safer bet? Worst case scenario, you will have credit to use on CO, right?
