Using a GPS in israel by downloading the maps.

I have a friend of mine telling me he knows of something that you could stick into your GPS and have the maps avlb for israel, I never heard of any such thing, can it be a sim card? Or an sd card? He told me there's gemachs with this chip where you can get for your gps.
 He asked me if I know anything about it,but I do not, maybe someone here has used such a device with such a chip and knows what he's talking about and where these gemachs are?

Looks like there are a number of possibilities.  Anyone using these...please report back your reviews for the rest of us.
REMEMBER:  Often these maps don't differentiate between "safe" Eretz Yisroel and Arab occupied territories/Arab villages.  BE CAREFUL.
