Didn't notice if a change fee was mentioned, but as I have been saying, once the passenger was allowed to board, this is (or at least should be) under airline control. And even if they allowed anyone else to make changes to the PNR after this fact, they have (at the very least a) moral responsibility. My argument is similar to the one where Iberia stranded underage passengers in Madrid.
I believe you misunderstood Dan. Generally when the airline "takes control" of an agency issued ticket, the agency loses control over the ticket.
I was actually wondering the same thing

Airlines are allowed to change tickets issued by agencies, upon request from the passenger. They generally don't like to touch tickets issued by agencies, but they are allowed to and this is done (probably hundreds of times) every day.

Sure they’re allowed, but if they’re gonna do it they need to take responsibility. It also seems you agree that the agent shouldn’t have been able to void the ticket once it was changed by UA.

Starting to think UA just revalidated the ticket, they should have exchanged it

UA can exchange the ticket or revalidate, doesn't matter if it's a SDC. In agency tickets they usually exchange which the agent then can't void but can cancel the segments

Most of the time UA exchanges, I did see this week UA revalidated a ticket of mine, date and flights were totally different

By a partner airline UA most exchange, I had once they revalidated and the OAL cancelled, and UA didn't want to eat their mess

LY is known to make accommodations for bereaved passengers. They might have even bumped someone to get me on a flight when I went for my father's levaya. However, once boarded, any accommodations or consideration seem to stop. Even at the airport, didn't make things easier, and left me doubting until the last moment whether they would allow me on the flight, which they did.
I've been waiting over 5 years with bated breath for someone to say that!

I had the exact opposite experience, trying to get there before Shkia. It was so appalling that another passenger seated next to me felt the need to scold the FA for their attitude towards me.
I've been waiting over 5 years with bated breath for someone to say that!

Don't have similar experience with UA/DL, but BA once made an announcement asking all passengers to remain seated, while they took my hand luggage and escorted me to be first off at the gate (at JFK) when I landed on a short Friday.
I've been waiting over 5 years with bated breath for someone to say that!
