It looks like he lives in Toms River. Anyone have a contact in a Bais Din that I can speak to?

The bookkeeper has one connection on a dormant LinkedIn page. That’s all I was able to find on him.

I've seen dozens of these type of scams in my career. It's not a chidush to receive them if your in any field that handles lots of wires.

I don't know any details of anything here.

Where do you see that it showed up in the same thread? To me it looked like it was a new email chain in Gmail's UI, but included the body of the previous thread.

This part (alone) wouldnt bother me. Maybe it took the FBI a couple weeks to open the case, and only started collecting evidence recently.

Embellished maybe? "The FBI is looking into it" meant that he called the FBI, spoke to a low level employee, and they said they'd get back to him. Not so crazy (unlike some other parts of this).

I was able to replicate it with a second email that is a forwarding address of my first. Don't want to post screenshots as it's my personal emails, but I'll describe the processes that worked for me.

I started a conversation between email 1 and email 3 with a few emails back and forth. Then, when responding from email 1, I had the option to click on the "From" section and to instead select email 2, which is a forward email of email 1. When the email arrived at email 3, it was part of the same string, and it was email 2, not email 1.

Note, that there was no option to click on "from" when sending from email 3, because there was no forwarding email associated with it. So this would only work if the scammer account is connected with one of the accounts on the chain.

Maybe there is another way, but this was one way that worked for me.

1) they were supposed to be paying $90k according to their agreement.
2) my belief is that they got scammed (out of $25k) but they were losing money anyways (not enough guests) - so they used this as an excuse to shut it down. He never mentions the amount of money he got scammed out of - makes me believe that it was a (relatively) small amount.


ETA: listened back the first interview. He says that they sent multiple wires (to the scammer) on that day (as money came in). If that's the case, then it's likely more than $25k.

But elan kornblum lost any legitimacy 10 years ago at the mesora dinner fiasco. I had food poisoning etc and he was all about well no lh, judge favorably etc etc you did eat a grasshopper etc etc

No one in this story comes off well. Zev Brenner has a paid sponsor on as a supposed unbiased third party arbiter of Pesach program scaminess, an unbiased judge who wants to submit HG to a polygraph in the same breath as saying they are inadmissible as evidence (due to being unreliable), HG is clearly lying about all kinds of stuff even if he did get scammed, those with prior beefs with HG kept them private from unsuspecting consumers and now are claiming some sort of moral high ground in just wishing people get their money back, and ZB did a piss poor job of controlling the interview, he would complain HG was not answering questions, but would get defensive at the attacks from HG and go on tangents himself.

This conversation is so juicy that I keep getting tempted to post some sort of Lashon Harah about some of those involved, but I have no connection and there's absolutely no toeles for me.

Is there a fictional account of a similar nature that I can pontificate about without the potential of it being Lashon Harah?
