Costs have gone off the rails. The programs are not trying to suck people dry, but the situation this year is very tough. They need to charge more to make a profit but people want to (and/or are only able to) pay much less.

Signups are way down this year.

Isn’t this classic supply/demand? If demand is way down at that price then pricing starts to soften up the supply chain until the price point generates more demand.

Heard TU Presidents conference was only 75% full as of a couple of days ago, taking place tomorrow. I guess for 5-6k a room it’s a tougher sell this year.

abundance of food with no pushing, a hotel higher then motel 6. multiple pools etc.

I am not going to mention names but there are some programs that are in a side of the road inn yet they make it like they are in a 5 star hotel. they put up tents to accomodate etc. issue is hotel doesn't have nearly enough facilities to cover the 1500 ppl.

Who exactly can afford this?
AFAICT from recent posts, a frum family would need to be making well in to the $400k range!

You think? How do they defend that to their parent body when they negotiate over tuition?
Ah, you went on a nice vacation... you can afford tuition...???

It’s also creeping up toward the price where if you are hosting just a few families you can rent a place a bring along a chef for not much more.

not commenting on any guests in particular, just at that price the business case of the whole industry really starts to look a bit wobbly

These are donors and fundraisers with a bunch of vacationers tagging along for the setting, not the program, in recent years. What does this have to do with tuition?

I like to think https://www.pesachtime.com/ qualifies. Definitely nicer than motel 6.

Since when do parent body get to comment on expenses incurred by the school?

How can the executive director/president/board look at vacations the families took when they are running off to expensive confrences at uber upper class locations?
It makes TU and its member schools look oblivious to the struggles of the haamon am, and the fact that they are dealing with kupas hatzibur.

Time to move to the tuition thread...
but A. as above, conspictuous consumption by the school leads to lack of trust in the parent body where exactly the problem lies... is it with the parents not paying enough or the C-suite of the school.
It's not like there isnt enough distrust over the school budgets already

This is a VERY large gap between Motel 6 and multiple pools. You seem to be defining normal as high-end but not ultra-high end.

It’s 6k not to live it up but for directors and fundraisers to forge relationships with donors. I get the optics part but to insist that they skip to show solidarity with parents is penny wise and dollar foolish. Anyone effective is going to bring in multiples the amount spent for their mossad.
