After hearing everyone coming home and talking about their flight issues, food issues, house issues, shul issues, program issues, kashrus issues, et al, I am more convinced than ever that building a dedicated full Pesach kitchen was the best investment I will ever make.

I have worked over Pesach in 5 star programs, gone to houses in Orlando and Palm Springs, etc. While there are certainly many nice aspects to them, there really is no place like home.

Who doesn't clean for Pesach? Anyone going away cleans, but perhaps doesn't cook (depends on where they're going).

Why should people clean besides for throwing away the chametz and selling the house. That's precisely what people are doing with summer houses after spending there shabbos hagadol.

When we talk about trauma and reasons to go OTD - Pesach is high up on the list.

Chag kosher *v'sameach*: don't throw the baby out with the chametz.

Then Pesach is just one area where the abuse and anxiety of unhealthy parents came out severely. Mamesh trauma, my goodness.

We heard through the grapevine that there was a cancellation of Arie Chel Hyda Pesach Program in Montenegro due to customs not allowing the trucks of food in. We hear that they are giving people a choice of a full refund or transferring them to one of a few nearby programs.

I guess the offer of a full refund or replacement options (assuming they will actually follow through) is the best realistic possible outcome. The customer will still be inconvenienced by having to rearrange their travel for the new destination, and that might have costs too, which I don’t think the program will reimburse. I hope they can cover all their refund/reaccommidarion costs considering the last minute change…

As much as you don't want to hear about any program canceling and messing up people's Pesach plans, I'd much rather hear about them handled the way this program did as opposed to previous horror stories.

So they managed to get some trucks slip through customs but not others?
I've been waiting over 5 years with bated breath for someone to say that!

Some programs knew who to pay or how to source properly, and this one didn't.

. Why would we?

To be mekayem the mitzvah of tashbisu.

I once discussed going away with Rav Forscheimer in Lakewood who told "it is not so hard to clean your whole apartment me'ikar hadin. Sell cabinets, under inside and behind furniture and then vacuum and sweep the floor and you are done.

I would think it is precisely because you have tried all different options, that is why you can really appreciate staying home.

Not that big investment, less than a program for a single year. Yom tov is always nicest at home.

People put Pesach into their vacation budget vs capex budget, so can't quite compare, but yes. It's a no-brainer. Having a dedicated space that you can prepare food in advance is the difference maker.

Kitchen turnover was never a big deal for pesach. Need to get done at some point anyway. Most of our food is pesach friendly

That's just because you have yet to find a Pesach program that accepts AMEX points!

Lol. My daughters adopted a minhag to write down wishes and leave it in the pesach kitchen to see the following year whether they come to fruition. After 2-3 years it evolved to full blown kvitlach and bakoshos... I begged them that I promise that there is no tzaddik buried there and please stop with that nonsense. My young daughter proved me wrong saying that she asked for mommy to have a baby and two months later her wish was fulfilled... Oh my.
