Baggage fees while flying united...

Ok, so I may have noticed many of the competing airlines changed their policy in regards to checked baggage, but it never sunk in because I haven't flown as much this year.

Now, I've got tickets booked for Pesach on United, and it just hit me that I'm not sure whether or not I'll have to pay for all my bags. I see that if you have certain flyer memberships or special statuses, you still get the first 2 bags free. I need that.

Can anyone explain how this works? Is there any way I can avoid these fees when I go in the next week and a half? I'm not looking to pay $15 a bag for my family of 4!
I'll sign up for whatever membership frequent flyer I need to... Anyone got any tips?

Mordy there's nothing to do on United unless you have elite status, are granted elite status by a friend, or are traveling with an elite member.

I see... I've been reading up on this since I posted that, but I was hoping someone here had some workaround or something I wasn't aware of.

I suppose since I don't have Elite status (or are traveling with anyone that is), my only option would then be to desperately find someone who could grant it to me.

If anyone here has the ability to grant Elite status to me, I'm willing to pay something for the privilege. Please contact me (PM or email me here).
