Currently on a flight from LGA to MSP. I have no idea why but the agent had it out for me. They told me my bag did not fit when it clearly did. I was forced to gate check it. I have platinum status and was one of the first few to board so not having overhead space could not have been the issue. It is also an empty flight.

The bag clearly fitted. American Airlines.....

No, not height, it completely fit. It was the strangest thing.

What's the best way to go about that? I definitely deserve compensation for this one- it was totally ridiculous, the gate agents should be fired!

I tweeted AA and they said they will look into it but I don't know how serious they will take me because I only have 6 followers

I don't think they should get fired...... But Twitter may be a good way to request compensation

Did they take it away at the gate or did you leave it right by the entrance of the plane?

I have many times taken off the tags as i was walking down the ramp. When theres a luggage tag on it though i save it and after i get the bag in the overhead bin i go over to the steward and let them know so it doesnt register as a bag that wasnt loaded underneath.

She did not let me take it down the ramp, I would have brought it straight on. AA on twitter is not helping. This is so weird

And sometimes there just isn't space on the aircraft physically, even if you were first to board.

Not the case here, i am platinum so I board early and flight was half empty.

He means certain smaller planes that can't fit bags, erj 140/5 for example

I davka have a half size rollerboard which fits on all planes, yet sometimes an obnoxious gate agent will insist it doesn't fit even though I know it does.

Same. I usually pull off the tag while walking down the jetbridge

some airports take it from you prior to the bridge
