I started the thread and I decide the context that matters.  :)
For the drive by, no. I 100% consider a individual who commits suicide in a school a school shooting.
It's this sort of nonsense, where a suicide in a school is conflated with a mass shooting in a school, that stops us from even having the discussions that could perhaps lead to some policy changes.

If a kid brings a gun to school to kill himself there is more at play here. It can very easily been a mass shooting but I consider it a school shooting and not a mass school shooting.

Assault weapons ban is just a gun grabbing ploy. It doesnt actually address anything.

What about mass knife killings ? https://www.cnn.com/2016/07/25/world/japan-knife-attack-deaths/index.html
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Mass_stabbings

truck and car ramings https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vehicle-ramming_attack

...

Or what about the deadliest school mass killing in the US on record? (Yes, more kids than Sandy Hook.)

It was a bombing.

Does Oklahoma City ring a bell with anyone?

What do you consider the best possible solution?
1) Dealing with the primary underlying issue - mental illness (I'm not sure how)
2) Dealing with the secondary issue - lack of armed citizens, by stopping to make gun free zones, the only people who listen are the law abiding citizens. (I have no issue with schools being illegal gun free zones with the same consequences as they have now.
I wonder what people who type "u" instead of "you" do with all their free time.

You're kind of assuming that taking away gun free zones would lead to lots and lots of people carrying. What if that's not the case? What if the majority of the public doesn't want to have to carry a gun to feel safe?

I don't give a rats *ss what the ACLU thinks. You only use them when they agree with you, totally dishonest. Now address the issue. Why don't you speak out against the president for signing that law or do you agree with him?
That's typically how it works, a person brings those who agree with him, to demonstrate that it's not only his opinion.

The fact that the person who currently agrees is unexpected just bolsters the opinion in question, and shows that there is a broad basis for it.

So yes, I stand with the ACLU, President Trump, and the NRA that we shouldn't be removing civil rights from people without due process.

Evil people are going to kill. For us to just standby and not try do anything about it is insanity.
But taking away peoples rights in the name of "doing something" even though it will do little to help is worse. Good policy is not made by trying to "do something". Good policy is made by going thru an issue with a level head instead of using emotions

What does committing suicide have to do with school shootings?

With the criteria they set for whats labeled a school shooting, Im shocked its only 18- I would have thought there'd be at least 1 a day on average.

You don't always get to do what you want. If that means the only way to be safe is to carry, I'm sure many people would carry. If it wasn't impossible to get a carry permit where I live (without a "good reason) I would definitely consider it.
There are plenty of people who already do in states that allow, even if the majority don't there would still be enough to stop a massacre.

Are there enough in states that allow? Source?

Evil people are going to kill. For us to just standby and not try do anything about it is insanity.
What's truly insanity is thinking that by removing one tool we're accomplishing anything beyond feeling good.

There are many demonstrated ways that people have used to kill. Bombings, arson, handguns (Virginia Tech, 32 killed in a mass school shooting by handguns - yes, once again, more people than Sandy Hook, more people then this shooting in Florida), etc.

The vast majority of homicides is through handguns.

However, let's destroy the 2A in outlawing a common firearm used by millions of law abiding citizens, let's destroy the other Amendments in trying to illegally seize personal property, all so that we can feel good that we "tried to do something about it".

Until people start using chains to lock doors of schools and burn the buildings. Or commit Oklahoma City style bombings. Or poison the school lunch. Or...

Enough.

Stop conflating a suicide on school premises with a mass school shooting.

Start proposing measures that could actually have an impact.

Then we can have a serious discussion.

Until then you're part of the problem.

SCOTUS has already said you can put restrictions. Stop with taking away peoples rights.
