SPG Cash and Points Upgrade

Is it possible to get upgraded to a better room by virtue of being an SPG Amex holder on a Cash and Points reservation? Or for that matter on a regular award stay?

I'm especially concerned about getting a room big enough for a crib and a rollaway (side note: do most Starwood Hotels charge for that?). So I thought maybe Preferred Guest Plus would be enough to ensure such a room.

preferred guest plus is worthless that being said most rooms have room for a crib or rollaway. both? it will be tight. as for a charge every hotel is different but most will not charge for a crib but will charge for a rollaway charges will vary

For upgrades, yes.
For 4pm checkout though it's quite worthwhile.

+1, SPG = Starwood Preferred Guest (meaning all SPG members are 'Preferred'), one step up from SPG dirt, albeit a little one, is Preferred Plus.

It gets more confusing with Hyatt, where you can be a 'Hyatt Gold Passport' Platinum member.

Call spg, its not that hard to be made Gold.  Tell them without being gold, you'll have to take your business somewhere else.

So you can essentially just call and ask for Gold status? Anyone have any experience doing this?

just tried, didnt work they said i need to charge 30k a year to get that or stay 10 nights in a year (i think the "year" starts on 2/1)
