Amex proof of address : "Original Letterhead"

Some people have been randomly getting this requirement from amex to prove their residence via an "Original Letterhead" from their bank which states their address. Problem is the banks don't give it. Anybody out there hear of a bank that gives such a letter? Also, is there a way around this requirement?

Amex once made me stay on the line while they called my bank to verify my info. They can get weird sometimes with their fraud scares.

Yes! It needs to be more official

I believe I've gotten such a letter in the past. Just find a nice banker and ask them to confirm the address they have on file.
Also, IMHO its not random, its probably for those who's address has some sort of mismatch with that on the CR.

A bank statement wouldn't be sufficient. When I was FRed by Amex they requested that I fill out the 4506 form and a letter from my bank confirming my home address. I called up Chase, Citi bank and Ally bank and neither one of them was willing to help me, so I went to A chase branch and a Citi branch and they both told me that they cannot confirm my home address because they don't know that I live at the address they have on file.  I then contacted BankDirect who were willing to write a letter confirming the home address that they have on file. Ultimately 3 months later after Amex received my tax returns they tried to verify the authenticity of the BankDirect letter, however, the supervisor that wrote the letter had resigned so they needed a new letter. I got another letter from BankDirect and somehow solved this issue. I could tell you that it wasn't fun at all, and that if you know a knowledgeable banker, which is hard to find, then you'll be able to get this letter. Alternatively, if you have a BankDirect account just send them a secure message requesting it. Good luck you'll need it!

i got this as well, i assumed that it was because i just changed my address, and when they tried to verify it over the phone, they had my old address on file, soo i had to go to the bank, ask for a notary, who then stamped and signed some paper and had me sign that i am the one who opened the account

and i needed to bring my passport, and show it to the notary, you can go to any bank, and then fax them the paper

Amex did that to my sister.  They said that they can't confirm the signature of the banker who signed the letter, please ask the individual who signed the letter to contact AMEX from their place of business.

And then there's this thing about verifying with the bank manager who signed the document. According to the rep I spoke to it depends on how you sent the letter in. If you mailed it then no further verification is needed. If you faxed it then they would need to call the bank and verify the signature.

Ask for a new one, and do it again, or ask for a manager

just have them call your bank with you on the phone

From my experience when they ask for the letter it's already at a stage that phone verification won't suffice.

Anyone else keep having this happen to them? Happened to DW too... (different address) Seems like they flagged something... Also only happening with one type of business card...
