I will be playing some blackjack and probably some poker.  This is my first time to Vegas so don't know what will get me comped and what won't and the less I spend on the hotel the more I have for the tablr
Be sure to pick up a blackjack basic strategy card on sale for under a buck at the various strip gift shops.
The casinos will let you use the card while you play!

Agreed, definitely not stupid, just another option.  As is waiting for a nearly free room via an orbitz coupon.

Although the Bellagio does have a couple $5 Blackjack tables that with following basic strategy could easily be broken even with.
as a non blackjack player am i to infer that the basic strategy only helps on low limit games? also whats the point, if youre looking forward to "break even"? if you dont play at all youre GUARANTEED to break even?!

Basic strategy always helps in blackjack, it makes the house advantage very small, smaller than with any other casino game.

If you're able to count cards you can even gain the upper hand over the house.  And it's actually quite simple to do.

My point is this:  Imagine flipping a coin, if you have $500 in your pocket and were to bet $5 per flip you could play that game for quite a while without digging too deep into your pocket.

At $100 per flip you could conceivably fall into a hole from which you can't get out of.

And breaking even after a few hours of playing is great, where else can you get such great entertainment and thrills without spending a cent?  And the break-even point is long-term.  Over the short-term you can easily come out ahead or behind...

agreed about the bj worked for me and gambling is a addiction so tread carefully
though all drinks are free so make use of that
my point was that some hotels in vegas are far superior then others and the fact that money is almost meaningless there to save a few dollars against having a great experience is just something you should think about

good luck !

Iv'e searched through the forum and although there are some threads addressing vegas nothing is even close to any other travel or deals forums, being that this is the dansdeals forums, I thought I would attempt to bring us up to date.
Now that I have become of age I am required to make the trip, now whenever I go on a trip, I spend some time doing research, last trip sparked my BRG thread which has now become defunct, last trip to cancun and the California cost worked out very nicely combining various points A good number of BRG nights and some great Avis coupons, I worked out flights hotels and car for 15 days for practically nothing to make a detailed trip report would take forever, and includes some things I can't post ;) This trip I would like to try and post everything to help other people out and maybe get some help from other peoples experiences.

I am going to try to keep this as organized as possible

Vegas deals and coupon website links

Casino Trip Reports well organized basic deal site

Las Vegas Hotel Discounts simple deals and specials site

Lasventions seem to be geared toward the hotel+show combos

Smarter Vegas very detailed providing all the latest coupon codes

Casino Comps

Truly a fascinating concept in which a casino will offer complimentary gifts, and or free stays as long as you spend money by them amazing concept, making you feel good while giving away your money. Anyhow every casino has a slightly different way of offering Comps. Most casinos have what they call players clubs they give you a card and everything you spend is tracked on this card and in most cases casinos/hotels comp you based on that card the ultimate goal in my case is to find the best way to make it look like I'm spending allot of money of course without actually spending a penny, of course I would want to get comped in the best hotel with the best comps so every card/club systems has to be scrutinized. There are a few ways I have seen suggested and some I've thought of and like to try.

1) Most slot machines have a small card slot at the top of the machine where you insert your player’s club card to track your slot machine play. Most people do not even bother with using the player’s club cards because they dont come that often or its to big of a deal to sign up. So why not get a player’s club card and place it into an empty machine and leave it there.  Let an unknowing player sit at the machine and run money through the machine adding points to your card and earning you point, or whatever the system is. Some casinos allow you to have unlimited player’s club cards for playing in multiple machines so this will allow you to put multiple cards into multiple machines with multiple players adding points to your card.  People won’t even realize that a card is in the machine and if they do, they normally pull it out and leave it near the machine thinking that someone just forgot it there.

2) Card tables dont have slots to stick you card now although I've never tested this turning money into chips and than back into money in some casinos might work.

3) Some hotels/casinos have lines of credit like credit cards or direct link to a bank account some casino call it a Marker limit I've seen some people say that just by opening a line of credit or putting money into a casino/bank account can get you comps.

Players clubs

Plyers Club Joint membership to Bellagio, MGM Grand Las Vegas, Mandalay Bay, The Mirage, Monte Carlo, New York-New York, Luxor, Excalibur, Beau Rivage and Gold Strike in Mississippi, MGM Grand Detroit, and coming soon in December, ARIA! Of course each and every resort/hotel has their own additional programs

ACE rewards club

MGM Grand Prima card open a $500 tab called a Prima card Maybe they match a status? Or Maybe you can somhow spend the money in casino and turn it into chips/cash
 VIP check-in
FREE SUITE UPGRADE to a Bungalow or Celebrity Spa Suite, or a $50 activity credit
One roundtrip limousine transfer to Bellagio, Mandalay Bay or any other MGM MIRAGE location
One-level ticket upgrade for 2 to MGM Grand's KÀ by Cirque du Soleil

TO BE CONTINUED SHABBOS IS COMING.

If you want your jaw to drop see KOOZA. A tent show, it will be in Cali for a spell, was already on the East Coast. Ive travelled around by car and flights to catch a show.Yes that was the reason for the trip

just got back from my 24 hour escapade to vegas, for $40 I just couldn't resist, I went with four friends

the flights both ways on tue night and wed night were completely full since we booked a day before we all got middle seats spread out through the plane although the flight attendants made some adjustments and put us closer together after people started getting annoyed being talked over. when we got into vegas  we picked up our rental cars from hertz we got one corvette and one regular full size. the corvette was a little expensive but very worth it if you enjoy driving really really fast..  we checked in around 12:00 vegas time into the Aria one of the newest strip hotels there was a small line but not to bad. we had booked a corner suite at $275 minus $50 through expedia using a coupon obtained through expedia best rate guarantee so we paid $225. After a little haggling we were upgraded to the Aria suite with a city view, a $425 room The hotel is very modern and cool starting with the room keys, the room keys are RFID (you don't need to swipe just hold in front of the door handle area) when you open the door the lights all turn and the shades automatically open, the system is also supposed to welcome you by name but that didnt work for some reason, everything in the room is controllable by a touch screen panel next to the bed   this interface also shows up on all three tv screens in the suite it includes the options to turn on and off all lights, open close shades, put up a do not disturb light outside the room, control the thermostat, alarms/wake up calls, room service and of course tv/movies, there are still actual switches for everything which looked pretty cool the company who makes the system control4 has a website about the system in the hotel. The room was otherwise very nice we had a great view from the 55th floor and the bed was extremely comfortable. The casino there was nothing amazing the drink though were brought really fast and were very good. It seems to be that almost all hotels now have free valet parking. we ate wed night in the hafia restaurant the food was super expensive the service really slow, and the taste left what to be desired.

well seems haifa still hasnt changed from a # of yrs ago and why I stopped going there, thanks for the info as people on a different thread didnt like that I was staying away from this place, do you know if its still owned by this sort of white hair Russian guy?

cant believe that 4 guys will go to LV for 1 night and actually end up going to sleep,LoL

did a couple of runs to LV back in Feb arrived 10pm and flew out at 7am never saw a casino took a shower and grabbed a few hrs shut eye. Not a prob as I usually  get there for  a few days for Mattress Runs every year  when the town is dead

theres another Hotel I wont get to sleep in the Aria isnt connecIed to any major Hotel chain, there was suppose to be a Hyatt in that complex and W and a few others that were eyeing it before everything hit the

Vette , Full size car heck the largest car I ever drove in LV or to or thru it was a PT Cruiser and I was non too happy with getting stuck with such a large car.

as for hotel rates always <  $79 and usually < $65 as I said I go when the plac eis dead and was able to pick up  a few very cheap stay credits for hilton,Marriott or SPG now dead and gone without The PH (which I usually paid on avg $49 and got the so called Strip Suites which really werent a suite but a large odd sized room) The only time I got what I would consider a true suite was at Paris yrs ago I paid $77 when reg rooms everywhere else were $39.

sounds like you guys enjoyed the day off and hopefully you didnt make it back with deep holes in your pockets

No holes in the pockets, in fact, no trousers at all, just a wearing a barrel.

How fast can one drive in LV a/r?

There was a while I went as part time job to casinos (99% online), but if you go for fun, leave your cc and cash in the hotel, and come with max $100.
