Both the South Point and the Tropicana are four stars. I found rates for the tropicana starting at $44/night and the southpoint at $62. Has anyone stayed at any of these? Is one better than the other?

Everything on the strip is four stars or more.  Some are just bigger stars .  I've heard very mixed reviews of tropicana.  Did you check the luxor not in the pyramids is supposed to be nice.

Does anyone know if tickets to different shows are worth purchasing on the spot or are there better deals if bought on certain sites online?
If online is better, which sites?

TIA!

I wouldn't push it.... The Tropicana is not a 4 star hotel

Welcome to the forums. Normally you'd want to post this in the appropriate thread though I am sure a Mod will move it over soon enough.

I've never been to Vegas myself but my friends tend to stay at the Belaggio or The Venetian.

depends on the atmosphere and area you prefer..
i go to vegas twice a year and have stayed at all the hotels and now i only stay at the manadarin, theres no casino and the atmosphere is quieter and the people are more normal as opposed to some of the other nuts you get at the other hotels..
if you like trendyand young atmosphere than the cosmopoliatn works
the venetian is great because the coffee bean in the hotel is kosher

I just got back from 2d/3n in vegas, and we stayed at TheHotel at Mandalay Bay. I think by June it will be Delano Las Vegas. Regardless of the name it was great.  We booked TheSuite http://www.mandalaybay.com/accommodations/thehotel/thesuite/ and when we got in I gave the agent my CC and license and attempted to give him a $20 (his name was Brian, a young asian man) and asked if we could get an upgrade and a late checkout.  He did not want to take the money and i insisted and he refused, so i just left it on the counter.  The agent next to him said wait to give it to see if he can do anything for you, and I said even if he can't it's still his. Regardless, he upgraded us to a V Suite http://www.mandalaybay.com/accommodations/thehotel/v-suite/ on the 34th floor and gave us a 3PM checkout.
The suite was gorgeous, the hotel really clean and nice and very quiet.  The casino is really nice with very high ceilings (30-40 feet high), very much NOT claustrophobic (compare to Harrah's whose ceilings are as high as Schick's catering hall in Brooklyn)
I STRONGLY recommend renting a car, especially if you keep kosher as the kosher restaurants are all about 25 minutes away with 3 or 4 exceptions.  Regardless of kosher, just getting around the strip can take a while if you are walking and driving, especially in 100 degree summer is easier.

Understood, but I'd only be staying for a night, and then heading up to Bryce and Ziyon.
Seems expensive for one night...

But if I can get it for $80 w/ the BRG + 2k for the BRG + the stay credit, it might be worth it.

The chinese place closed down. Getting tougher to eat kosher here the service at all the testaurants stink.
