Is the Thunder from Down Under still in Vegas?
Yes. Is that your cup of tea?  :)

Was just offering an idea in case someone wanted more "hardcore" action (probably not relevant for almost everyone here). Don't think i would actually go to one of those shows, let alone spend money on one.

Here is my first TR. Hope you like it.

My wife and I took a Jetblue flight to Las Vegas from JFK at 6:27 AM on a Sunday morning. I do not have much to say about the flight because all Jetblue plains are basically the same from what I know. We landed at 9:30 AM PDT and took a shuttle straight to the National Car Rental center.  I was a little disapointed with the fact that the Emerald club had a very small selection of cars.  Their main rental area had a much larger selection of cars to choose from, but they did not let me choose from that lot. We decided to take a Chrysler 200 convertible, which was the nicest car in the lot, but it turned out to be a really bad car.  One issue we also had was that we couldn't take the top down because it was way too hot. We arrived at the Encore at about 11 AM and checked into our suite.  I tried upgrading my room, but they only were available for an extra $50 a night and not available until 3PM. Once we got settled in our room we went straight down to the pool for the remainder of the afternoon until about 4:30 PM. That night we went out to Jerusalem Grill, which I thought had very solid food. We ordered a chummus with shwarma platter, which I enjoyed, and for the entree I ordered a Chicken breast, which was okay. After dinner we went straight to the Mirage for the Cirque Du Soleil-LOVE show.  It did not contain as much acrobatics as their other shows, but it was visually and musically amazing - especially if you like the Beatles. Afterward when we got back to our hotel I played a little Poker and lost about $400 in approximately 2-3 hours  :(

Day 2.
We started off our day by picking up breakfast from Coffee bean in the Venetian.  I got a chocolate croissant, a muffin, a breakfast wrap and an iced coffee. After breakfast we went down to the pool until about 2-3 PM. We went to Panini Cafe that night which was ok. I ordered a spaghetti and my wife ordered a raviolli. Both dishes we enjoyed.
That night we didn't have any shows planned, so we walked the strip, checked out most of the hotels, and we went to the Bellagio fountains. I did not initially realize how long the strip actually was and was wiped when I got back to my hotel.

Day 3.
Mornings and afternoons throughout the trip were generally the same.  We once again had breakfast at Coffee Bean and then went to the pool until 2-3 PM.  We then went up to our room to shower and change and instead of going out to eat that night we ordered food from Jerusalem Grill to our hotel and ate in the room.  Afterward, we then went down to the casino and my wife lost $100 in Blackjack  :( . We then drove over to Caesar's Palace to watch a Celine Dion Performance.  If you are a fan of Celine Dion, this show was truly amazing! After the concert we drove back to our hotel and since it was our last night we decided to try our luck one more time at the Blackjack table (I don't usually gamble this much). We ended up winning back the $500 we lost in the first two days! 8)

Day 4.
We started off the day by going to the pool for 2 hours until we had to go back to the room in order to pack and checkout. We had a flight leaving at 2:30 PM, but we went to the airport a little early to see if we can get a 1:15 PM flight on standby. While waiting at the airport to see if we can get on the early flight, I put $20 in a slot machine. As I was playing, I heard mine and my wife's name being called out so I had to cash out of the slot machine with a profit of $7!  We ended up getting on the earlier flight and officially left Vegas a winner.  :)

Should I accept the rental insurance when going to vegas with a rental? I've heard there's lots of drunks that hit and run. Or would the United explorer card coverage be enough?

Your best bet for Shabbos in Vegas is to stock up Friday on everything you need at "Smiths Kosher Experience" at my last trip to LV I was pleasantly surprised to find this Kosher grocery shop which packs mostly anything you may need for a Shaboos meal, including a take-out section.

its around a 20 minute drive from the strip, located at 2211 N. Rampart Boulevard, Las Vegas, NV 89128 and you can call them at (702) 256-5200

Fyi. There are 2 routes to get to the airport from the strip.. A uses local roads and is quicker, B uses the highway (and tunnel) and takes longer. Vegas cabs are known to take the longer/tunnel route in order to make a few extra dollars (This practice has become so common and is referred to as long-hauling.) Tell your driver "No tunnels, take the side streets/quick way"

A. are you kidding? the airport is almost walking distance from the strip... only via local roads, what highway are you talking about...

B. Taking cabs in LV is a big NO NO... Always rent a car in LV, so much cheaper then taking cabs and plenty of parking space is available at every single Hotel/Casino

There are shuttle buses which you can take to your hotel from the airport for a very minimal fee.

New York New York offers complimentary self parking in their main parking garage, as well as Valet parking
and if you plan to move around the strip while you are there, you need a car... and using a cab will eat you up. My first time there I made the mistake of not renting a car, never again. car rentals are cheap and will save you big time

IMO, it depends what you plan on doing in Vegas if you need a car or not. If you are just going casino hopping, you do not need a car.

Let's put it this way... no kosher restaurant is walking distance to anything at all, the closest would be Adar Kosher Pizza, and even casino hopping is no fun walking, the strip is long and can be quite exhausting

I agree on the food part, but you can get delivery. Trying to drive on the strip and see multiple casinos may take you a long time with traffic and parking at the hotels. IMO/E walking was not bad, but can understand the exhausting part, especially on a hot summer day.
