I actually like it for that, as I use it only TG for the groups and channels.
I don't want notifications for anything. If there's supposed to be notifications I would have turned them off.
OTOH Whatsapp you can never truly mute or turn off notifications.

+1 super frustrating, from time to time shows up in my notification bar too.

WhatsApp web really doesn't handled muted conversations

That would need to be done manually, afaik. Or a lot of extra programming.
