I have an AC flight for an hour or so from now that's delayed 1 hour 15 minutes at this point. I am not planning to take the flight. Do I need to be checked in to get the refund due to extended delay or cancellation due to weather?

No, but call them before the flight to cancel.

Not familiar with AC, but you do not need to be checked in and if it's a no show it will be harder to get a refund.

What does being checked in to the flight have to do with getting a refund? PUTPAC and they should refund without any questions.
