There is a new study giving free genetic testing for the BRCA mutation that leads to breast cancer לא עלינו. Unfortunately, the mutation is very common in the Ashkenazi community. I asked the founder why no Sefardim and he said the mutation is thankfully not in that community due to historical factors. There is an online sign up process that takes a little under an hour, a visit to a Quest Diagnostics lab and then you hear your results from a Genetic Counselor working with the study or from your own Doctor. The person running the study is one of the preeminent cancer geneticists and oncologists in the world. Here is the link and description below:
https://www.bforstudy.comWomen and men with a BRCA gene mutation have a greater risk of developing several types of cancer. Most of those at risk do not know that they carry a BRCA mutation.
The BFOR study provides genetic testing for common BRCA mutations for women and men of Ashkenazi (Eastern European) Jewish ancestry, age 25 or older, in four U.S. metropolitan areas. 95% of American Jews are Ashkenazi.
