When they ask for bus name and it's not a registered official name you give them is that a legal problem? What if someone has a small side business and that's what they call it but it's not registered ?
One they pay taxes on etc.

(An actual business, not a 'made up' one to apply)

You put down the legal name of the business. The problem is when so many are pretending they have a business.

AFAIK you can have a legal Sole proprietor with a DBA as a random name, not your own name. And when it comes to taxes they have no idea, and don't need to have an idea that you are doing business as "CM biweekly Vegas trip" rather you earned the money via self employment. More then that is irrelevant.
If I resell 10k of products annually, I thereby have a sole prop. And FWIW my business can DBA "I'm a troll".()

You put down the legal name of your business. It is that simple. The problem is many have no business so they want to know how to get around that. We both know what is going on.

We're talking sole prop. without legal business docs.

That's what I did before opening my corp.

Wasn't worth he hassle of opening a corp when i was just starting out to test the waters.

Creating an LLC is ridiculously easy, this shouldn't really be a problem for anyone.

The problem is many have no registered legal business, rather they are applying as a sole proprietor.

What are you talking about? A SP is a legal business. None of mine have my name as DBA.

It's a legal business which isn't registered anywhere. Now that it isn't registered anywhere Why can't your DBA be something other than your name?

Not sure what you are getting at or what you are asking. The OP was about putting down the name of the business for a SP. Many said put down your own name. You but down the legal name of the business. If you don't have a legal business don't apply and commit fraud.

Granted.
But if it's a SP and the there is no legal/registered business name.
If you are doing business as your self, without a "business" at all, say your friends call you up to do IT work for them you write your own name, because that's your DBA.

But if to your neighbor your business is called "Yaakov's IT" to your shver its "Yankel's IT" and to your goyish friend its "Jack's IT".
What do you write then?

Still haven't figured out if it's a legal issue to not have registered my business name and if when applying I am better off using my own name as the business name.

Can anyone shed any light on this?

Why?
GIYF. There are many reports that suggest that. As we see more recently with Chase asking for proof of business unless you use your own name.

I got my wife the CIP last year and downgraded a month ago to ink cash to avoid AF.  She's still under 5/24. Can I get her this new ink cash offer if she already has one card open? And how about getting CIP? Does she need to wait another year to be eligible for the bonus?

I actually went and read that, found this “In fact, no formal filing or event is required to form a sole proprietorship; it is a status that arises automatically from one's business activity.”
