Basically all they did was make a really bad version of the A+ and thought that they could get away with it because they added transfer partners that they're not actually losing any money on. They save money because of the lack of SUB and increased AF and the cardholders get......nothing.

I see it as an extra $60 (vs. A+) to get the 15k/25k when reaching that threshold which honestly isn't too terrible.
Aside from the fact that they removed the SUB, which would make a PC not to terrible.

The earn rate is good, it's the redemption rate that's bad. Meaning if 1.4¢>1 mile then the partners are essentially worthless.
That's usually never the case, nobody transfers points for 1.4 cpp redemption.

Yes it is, I have to spend exactly $25k on it instead of $5k or whatever the SUB was on the A+ and then decide where I want to put the rest of my spend.

Exactly my point.
No, completely against your point.
Plenty of people, myself included, transfer CSR points despite the ability to cash out for 1.5!

Nothing wrong with choosing QF over 1.4 cents. LY J will be multiple times that.

Even at 2ppd there is value for some specific uses. The ability to use for any travel site is nice as are the transfers Dan has been mentioning.

3% cash out for travel if you spend 15K or 25K.

El Al redemptions are good too.

I haven't seen the El Al partnership listed yet and don't know their chart, but more options are always better.

I know including the fee is questionable.

I always like to weigh the total picture of a years card holding to gage what my return and costs will be... and my measurements, considering it's a pretty solid comitment to shoot for spending the 25k on the card, tell me ill be potentially looking at 2.4% compared with a no fee 2% option. I can live with that number. I'm also a fan of that type of redemption where I have more flexibility to stay at a non program hotel that works better for my sensibilities.

Another way I like to consider it when looking at travel reimbursments is what is my cash discount will be; considering fees and MS costs. With no MS costs this annual $750 would be an 80% discount... and that may be the redemption that works for me when the time comes... if it comes. But of course there is no way to really value these travel cards until the account is closed.

I'd suggest reading the DDMS post then to understand the factors at play here.
The LY angle can be quite lucrative, if you can spend $25K.

Even if you spend $25k, that only gets you about 53k Quantas which you can earn with one Citi SUB...

Apples, meet oranges.

We're all well aware of the lack of the SUB. But unless you have a way to get unlimited Citi SUB without a Delorean, it's a moot point as far as spending is concerned.

One point that was really missed is the travel story’s by Barclays, specifically “  150 Miles per story Up to one hundred (100) travel stories can be posted by a Member per Month.
Each detail added to a travel story using the map will earn 10 miles per detail. Members can add up to 25 travel details per travel story.
Every time the story that is authored by a member is kudoed by another member, the member will receive 10 miles
Completing a profile will earn each Member 500 miles” more details here https://www.barclaycardtravel.com/t5/custom/page/page-id/miles-participation
I think some creative souls here will find a way to hit this really hard... but even doing it the easy way I could see myself doing 2 story’s a month which would net me 800 Miles plus another 500 for sign up...
Not saying that this card is worth it or that I plan on signing up, just pointing out....

I'm not sure, but the minimum travel redemption is $100 so 'whether' may be moot.

So has anyone applied for this card?  On paper, it certainly lacks the "WOW" factor, but it does make for an interesting proposition for those of us living abroad that can't use the Chase FU/Amex BBP for everyday spend due to FX fees (and now that Amex SPG is a goner).  Plus Qantas is good for El Al, Etihad also has a few interesting uses from TLV, and of course, JAL/FlyingBlue.  The only other cards earning >1 point per dollar with no FX fee on unbonused spend are either locked to a specific program (e.g. Virgin Atlantic card, Asia Miles card, United Club card) or have spend thresholds to get the bonus points (e.g. Amex Biz Plat only on >$5K charges, Amex Ameriprise Plat 5K bonus points per $20K spend).
