Are you the primary holder? What about an additional holder? At which airport was this?
I am not the primary card holder.

I got 2 bags, The primary card holder gets one, and up to 3 more - one per person they are flying with

LGA didnt know, and Neither did the agent at CLE know...

If you enter into the res your AA member # that is registered with the card then when you check in it should pop up free baggage - thats what the agent behind the counter told me...

I was flying with the primary card holder... So that's why 2 bags...

But even an AU should be able to get - cuz you just show them the card... I don't think they have a way to check

Ok, I booked my Mom with Avios on AA, LGA-MIA, added her as an AU on my AA/Citi/Visa Signature/ Platinum card last week, they overnighted the card free of charge. As she arrived to the airport they didn't wanna honor the free bags at curb-side check-in, she demanded a supervisor,  the agent went inside to consult, he came back, escorted her to an inside counter where she was honored a free bag for her and her companion. Again, 1 free bag for each passenger!

Although I was told by the Citi agent (when ordering that additional card)that an AU -and up to 4 passengers on the same reservation - will be waived for 1 bag, I didn't wanna post it until she was proven right.

There goes all the speculations..

I booked with avios jfk-sjo on aa. email said one bag free and when I called aa web support they confimed this and I had them put it into system so that the agent at check in will see it. Does this make sense?

Anybody try this recently?

Also, how do I get the AA record number?

I just spoke to a rep at AA and he confirmed that I get one free bag.

I asked him to make a note of it on the itinerary or to send me an email so I'll have it in writing.
He said it was impossible for him to do either of those.
Is that really true? If not, how can I get them to notate it?

I just spoke to another rep, she said its $25 for the first bag and $35 for the 2nd.

I asked her to note ot on the itinerary.  She said that she did but I wont be able to see. Only they can see it on their end.

Anybody know what the real policy is? Are they going to end up charging $50 per bag   ???

The person flying does not have an AA cc.

So if I'm an AU and I book Avios, I can add the Primary cardholders AAdvantage number on itinerary and then  I as an AU (not flying with primary cardholder) will get a free checked bag?

Their AA member # isnt under your name, but as someone said earlier that it is confirmed that AU's get free bags. Showing the card in the airport alone should help but most people behind the counter either wont know what you are talking about, or wont know how to apply it (thats why putting ur AA # on the account would make it easier)
Also it will work if booked thru Avios

Can you clarify? I should add my AA# to primary cardholders account? How is that done?

Why don't you add your AA # on to the ticket, and then flash the card when you go through.

How would they know that the AA # on file isn't the one attached to the cc you'll be holding which will have your name on it?

Ok sounds like it's worth a shot... and I can attach an AA number to an avios ticket?
