Dan maybe you should make your own version of monopoly, in which cc's are used instead of money and after each swipe you earn points which can be used to travel to different spaces on the board and stay at hotels for free

first of all teaming up is not illegal that is what we call an oligoply and after all we are playing monopoly. Secondly it really depends on who your playing with

I'm not so convinced that it's a house rule. What would stop 2 people from teaming up like that in a real tournament to split the pot?

Regardless, if your family can tolerate teaming up like that, great. I just it doesn't work for mine

They're halfway there in Monopoly Ultimate Banking. They have debit cards but no rewards system.

Good stuff:

"If a debt is owed to another player, properties may be sold to a third player only if sufficient money is raised to cover the debt. If not, the properties are turned over as is (and not mortgaged if unmortgaged at the time the debt is incurred.)"

"No options or immunity from paying future rents may be granted, nor may partnerships be formed."

IMO, selling properties to an opponent for less than another opponent is willing to pay will indeed violate the official rules as that is a de facto partnership.

Yes however since it is in Harry's best interest not to allow all Tom's assets to go to Dick he can offer Tom a bargain ( such as only give me so and so property) which will allow Tom to remain in the game this scenario often leads to a price war between Harry and Dick

what I meant by bargain was for Harry who is owed for example $500 to say I'll buy so and so property off you for $500 and then your debt is covered
