What if the airline that doesn't allow you to use the carseat is not the same airline that sold you the ticket? Say, if I use United miles to book Air China, and Air China doesn't allow me to use the carseat on a flight that does not touch the US (so no DOT complaint), will United nevertheless refund the miles paid for the infant's seat?

Sounds like a headache to sort out. Did you email them about their policy?

Email who? United or Air China?

Either way, I've got nothing to lose: considering the outrageous amount of cash they charge for a lap infant in J/F, it costs more or less the same amount (in equivalent mileage value) to book him his own seat using miles as it does to book him as a lap infant using cash - perhaps even less, in fact.

So even in the worst case, if they don't allow me to use the carseat, I'm still paying the same (or less) for my "lap infant" as I would've if I would have booked him as an actual lap infant.

On CX A350 in J class, it says car seats allowed in all classes. Does that include rear-facing car seats i.e. the doona?

It says as long as it doesn't impede the recline of the seat in front of it.

i have car seats that have an faa approved sticker/notice saying they are certified for use in aircraft

Ended up booking the 767 and taking a car seat after reading on FT that you just need to use a seatbelt extender to deactivate the seatbelt airbag. Seems like it’s only allowed with this loophole on forward facing aircraft seats, not a reverse herringbone or other slanted seats.

Currently on board and worked perfectly

Didn’t want to think about possibility of needing a Plan B. Only went with it after seeing pictures of seatbelt tag.

Before I read reports and saw that, I was gonna settle for the 757 (hence reaching out on twitter to confirm that at least).

I know it says in the WIKI that Delta does not allow infant car seat in J class on the a330. But, anyone had success going w a doona in J? im talking about the TLV-JFK route
