Car rental in Israel

I am inclined to get a rental car for 6 (fam 5 + tour guide) for a one-week trip in Israel.  The alternative is $400/day for the vehicle as quoted by the tour guide.  Any additional perspectives I need to take into consideration?  Hotel is David Citadel JLM and Sheraton TLV.  Is it really that difficult to drive/park for someone from NYC?

In addition, what is the ballpark taxi cost for Allenby to David Citadel JLM for 5?  Tripadvisor has 300 NIS while I got quoted for $200 USD.

It's not that difficult to drive but the traffic can be very heavy.
Did you price the 6 seater? Between the car and gas and parking you may not save that much, rental prices shot up.
