Question for everyone: I made a Domes of Elounda reservation before the Merger when it was 45k/night. Applied my Travel certificate to it. I would rather have used my points 45k to pay for the reservation and keep my Cat 6. When i called in twice to have that done they are saying that they wont do it.

Does that make sense? I'mnot changing the date or anything. I should be allowed to have the original rate honored. Am i  correct? Any experience this?
Nothing about Marriott makes sense these days.... Technically they should be able to detach the certificate and use points instead but you will most likely need a very competent rep so I would try HUCA but honestly Im not surprised that they are saying it cant be done

Are there any options for extending Marriot points without a hotel redemption and earning from CC spending?
Does purchasing points at US$12.50 per 1,000 Points qualify as activity?

I am sometimes accused of overthinking things. I am still mulling over whether that accusation has merit.

Yes .

Stay at a Marriott hotel. Earning or redeeming points at a Marriott hotel is by far the easiest method. ...
Donate points. ...
Buy points. ...
Earn points with a reward partner. ...
Transfer your points to another account.

Not sure, but buying points works, I do have the credit cards, but I know first hand that buying points worked for family members.

Made a reservation with 3 nights Ritz cert online. Called in a few weeks later to add on guest , was told "Cant add a guest" (have done numerous times). "Let me cancel and rebook for you and then I can add the guest"...SO I check my account a few seconds later and she didn't use certs she booked it with points at 85K x3 points per night. Call back and reps are clueless, "sorry hotel is now 85K per night"?

Any suggestions??

Sorry, I don't have help now but I have had lots of better success recently calling hotels directly for these kinds of little changes.  They can totally add in the notes another person's name, at the front desk of the hotel.

Good Idea!

End of the story is, I was on phone with Indian rep, who transferred me to his supervisor, an even worse speaking english Indian rep, but after on the phone for over 1.5 hours he cashed the certs for 60K and then credited my account the difference in points and rebooked it.

I ended up calling 6 times and got the same response from everyone. Even the competent ones.
