For the Sweetspots for certain hotels for the remainder of 2018 such as SPG suites - can I make the reservation in Dec 2018 for late 2019 at the discounted rates?

I know this is off topic but idk where else to post it: Can I buy a Miles+Nights package and credit the miles to someone else's account? (Wife's account in this case, but with different address and last name than mine).

Specifically, I want to buy a United 132k package and/or an Alaska 120k if they'll let this...

Will I be able to share points between Marriott accounts in the same household after merger?
Fair warning - Any PMs sent in response to forum posts are fair game for ridicule in public.

I have a reservation starting the 19th of August for 5 nights, and the Hotel will be 50k instead of 60k with the new chart starting Aug 18th.
what’s recommended?
I would need to cancel my reservation by August 16th, is it worth taking the risk?

My wife and I have been accumulating SPG points so we can do a big 10 year anniversary trip to a location that has those villas on the water. We have 100k starpoints saved up. In looking at SPG, these are all category 7 hotels at SPG. I would like to make use of the Marriott Points+Miles program, but I want to do it right. If I move over my starpoints to marriott, then I should get the 7 night certificate in a category 7 hotel, and then book the hotel between 8/2 and 8/18, right? Or, should I be getting a higher category hotel certificate?
I have nothing witty to write here....

Youd need to go with a ritz tier 4-5 package if you want any chance of being able to redeem for those.

So, I've done some research and determined that all the hotels we're looking at, are category 8 or less. So I should be okay now, right?

Questions: me and 4 family members all have Starwood - can I still transfer them all now to my own account before they merge? and is it better to do now or after they merge?

also, what happens if i didn't link my SPG account to Marriot or if i don't have one?

I just "upgraded" a tier 1-3 certificate to a tier 4-5 certificate.

Marriott cancelled out the old certificate and credited me with 195,000 points and then debited me 315,000 points

It looks like they are charging 225,000 points for the miles.

Not sure if this is basic information.

I imagine they will not credit 45,000 points for a 1-5 certificate

Do you think the tier 1-3 will not be good for the new top category?
I was the Best, still the Best, and will always be the Best.

Initially I thought I would take the chance..... and still would - but I rarely stay in a hotel for more than 1 or 2 nights....

I am now looking ahead to a refund of points and figure I have better opportunities with the top Tier.

If I was planning on 7 days at a top Tier I would not have traded it in.

https://samchui.com/2018/07/27/marriott-hotel-air-packages-no-longer-bookable-august-3/#.W1soydJKhaQ

The Certificates will no longer be bookable according to this. I wonder if thats the date they stop selling them.

Key part: “We encourage members with existing travel package certificates to book before August 4. After that date, those certificates will go dormant due to the new systems we have created to bring the loyalty programs together. Members should be rest assured though that we are working on a solution and will let them know as and when we have more information to share.”
