New combined program announced:

https://meetmarriottbonvoy.marriott.com

interesting that they place "Sheraton" in the same league as Le Meridien and Marriott and Westin on the bottom of that page. Many Sheratons seem to be much lower in quality than the Westins, etc... in my experience.

Not yet on the todo list. Was just wondering if it was a common problem or not.

If I'm combining SPG and Marriot and I have both cards, should I get rid of one card? They both have yearly fees

If you stay in hotels, its offset by the free night. As another option you can sell it on DDF.

Simple equation is the free night worth the AF to you?

the free night on Marriott is worth it to me. Spg doesn’t give free nights. So should I just keep the Marriott? I might have just answered my question. I’ve had spg for so many years just want to be positive in chucking it.

SPG cards give you a free night as well...

That changed in the summer. Now they give a free night as well.

I have a 7 night cert attached to EUGENIA DE MONTIJO, from before the merger when the cert was 1-5. As it is coming up soon and I didnt want to detach it for fear of having it reduced to a 1-4, I was going to change the nights of my stay. When I went online to do it, it showed that, while my initial "cost" was 270k points for the 7 night stay, it is not 210k points for 7 nights, for the new dates that I selected. It showed that 60k points will be redeposited. Does that actually happen? Will I actually get 60k points?

Also, any advice for the best approach to take with an old 1-5 cert to maximize the value?

Bump

Any additional thoughts on this? I just want to know if I would actually receive a 60k refund if I do this and if it would affect my certificate in any way.

Highly doubtful that they will actually redeposit points.

Hi all,

I'm more familiar with airline redemptions, new to the hotel side. I will have two free night cat 1-5 certificates after my card anniversaries in June (one each for myself and my spouse).

I'm trying to book a family room for us and our two children in Paris for September.  Please correct any of my assumptions if they are wrong:

1) I can book now by points and then pay with the certificates that I will have received by the time of my stay.

2) The cost of the room may not exceed the value of the certificate (i.e. I can't pay any difference with points).

3) My understanding is that category 5 hotels are moving from 35k to 30/40 depending on peak season.

Question: What will the certificates cover, post peak/offpeak transition? Will it cover a 40k peak category 5 room? Or still only rooms that are 35k or less?

Bonus Q: Do we need two separate reservations since the certificates are in seaparate names? Or can we be on one reservation and then pay with our separate certificates?

TIA!

Apologies if this is answered elsewhere, but I tried searching, to no avail.

Anyone else here feel like the 15 night credits from the credit card(s) will never post?

Where do you get that from?

True

3) My understanding is that category 5 hotels are moving from 35k to 30/40 depending on peak season.
Sounds right.

Question: What will the certificates cover, post peak/offpeak transition? Will it cover a 40k peak category 5 room? Or still only rooms that are 35k or less?
Only 35k rooms and less

Bonus Q: Do we need two separate reservations since the certificates are in seaparate names? Or can we be on one reservation and then pay with our separate certificates?
2 separate reservations, cause it's two separate accounts. Though the reservations can probably be combined by calling.

TIA!
