i have a 7 day marriott certificate for tier 4-5 that expires end of july
i am not going anywhere for 7 nights
what should i be doing with this certificate before it expires?
Does it need to be changed to a new certificate before i can even use it?
but should i do that or is it better to ask for points to be returned
most i am going away is 4 nights at any hotel
please help
You should have it converted to new type of cert before expiration and that should validate it for another year.

If you cancel the cert you'll be getting back 315k
If you convert it you'll be getting a new cert good for a cat 7 [max 70k per night], so if you'll only be staying 4 nights 70x4=280, grab your points and book later via points.

There are more factors at play [splitting a stay with a freind and elite nights ETC.], but this is the basics.

I have an old category 1-5  7 night certificate-  If I cancel that, as opposed to using it in a new cat 1-4, how many points should I get back?  Can I extend for a year and then cancel next year and get the points back if I dont end up using it within the year?

I would get 315 back?  even though I have cat 1-4  and he had tier 4-5?

They will simply allow you to cancel and give back the 315k?
Also can you explain further what we would be asking them to convert the cert to?

Thanks

Hey Guys! What are the best Marriott hotels in Southern CA for us to use our cert or points?
(Looking for one with a nice pool and near a beach)
