The Do's
Great value grill: Someone please add :)

The Dont's
Don't play with the food on the grill. Flip it once (or twice if need be), that's all.

Be careful. Once your grill gets used you can have one heck of a grease fire and destroy your grill.
I singed my face as a 10 year old (but that was leaving fires on while closing tank valve instead of closing valve then lighting new fire to burn out excess)

No issues with assembly but it is time consuming.
AYLOR about the grates. According to R Belsky they should require libum

yes and yes
if you need to replace your grates anyway might as well upgrade. I wouldn't necessarily buy them for a new grill just because though

Heat up quickly. Clean easily, grill marks (if you care for those), no flare up, last long. You can also flip them over and have a flattop. I keep about 1/3 of my grilling space as flattop

A steak without grill marks is a hamburger.
Flattop is a nice feature. The others I have no issue with.

The trick is to get nice grill marks and a good sear.
Like most things, first impressions matter.  ;)
How would that work? If everything has good sear and you add grill marks, wouldn't they just be charcoal marks?

They are dark but not burnt.
I am guessing grillgrates flat side would give a nice sear.

Whats the advantage of that over a cast iron? Does it get any smokey grill flavor?

If you are asking about the grillgrates, I don't have them. I have the original SS bar grates.

cast iron pan in the kitchen? searing outside keeps the mess outside. no splatter or smoke inside.
cast iron grates bbq? it heats up faster and is easier to maintain.

look, i'm not saying everyone should switch to grillgrates. but if you are due for new grates, IMHO it's worth spending a little more to get them.

My grates are fine but after having the opportunity to grill on someone's fantastic built in xo grill with sear zone I am now wishing for a way to get that incredible sear on my Genesis and I was looking at grillgrates as a possible option (I would do half and keep the other half original ss grates)

you can also consider a cast iron griddle. that's what i was using until i needed to replace my enamel cast iron grates. worked well but took a while to get to temp. the aluminum grillgrates heat up much faster

Reading some reviews on grillgrates and came across this. Do you lower the temperature on your grill to compensate for this and is it actually true?

They act like a magnifying lens on top of the grill’s actual burners. They focus the heat by converting it into infrared heat and at the same time, transferring it evenly across the surface. The manufacturer state that the temperature will get 100-350°F hotter than the temperature originally set on the dome of your grill.
