Topic Wiki

The Do's
Great value grill: Someone please add :)

The Dont's
Don't play with the food on the grill. Flip it once (or twice if need be), that's all.

Be careful. Once your grill gets used you can have one heck of a grease fire and destroy your grill.
I singed my face as a 10 year old (but that was leaving fires on while closing tank valve instead of closing valve then lighting new fire to burn out excess)

what are your thoughts on this?

If you're spending that on a charcoal smoker, I'd highly recommend the Weber Smokey Mountain.

I know nothing about grilling, since I live in Lakewood and its mandatory to have a grill on my deck I'm wondering what to buy, I never grilled in my life and I asked a few neighbors what they like about grilling they said its a entertainment fro the kids but you can make the same food in your broiler.

so i'm wondering which grill I should buy, i'm surprised there is no thread on DDF about it  8)

Oh definitely don't get one of these smokers then. These are more advanced than what you're looking for. Get a cheap grill (<$100) from Walmart/Amazon and if you like it, go from there (they usually last 1 season/year).

Which pellet do you have?
Try this https://www.grillgrate.com/shop-grillgrates/standard-grillgrates/pellet-grills/
For direct heat grilling on your pellet.
I have a camp chef. Last time I tried getting it to high heat it was a disaster. Ended up having to vacuum out whole unburnt pellets from burn box

It was pointed out that I forgot to mention that the box it comes in is the perfect size to turn upside down, cut out a door and some windows, and set it up as a little house for your toddler.  It's my son's favorite toy.

On the topic of smokers I want to give an honorary mention to liquid smoke. I know it’s not the same as a real smoker but it gives an absolutely amazing flavor to burgers I honestly would not consider going wo it! The company I’m thinking of escapes me now but you can buy on amazon w Ou and elsewhere. It’s really a great addition to the flavor

I have a weber with stainless steel grates. I am having grilled BBQ chicken stick lately. Whats the best approach to getting the chicken not to stick to the grates. Ive tried low heat, high heat - same results. Thanks in advance.

Its definitely pricey,  but I was in the market for a new gril and figured I'll spend a little more and get something that can replace my grill and upgrade my smoker.

Try putting oil on the chicken first, and not flipping it until the side is basically done.

I purposely allow my chicken to stick. When you flip it it's all raggedy, which allows the sauce to penetrate amazingly well.

Which will of course only apply if you are using a sauce.

i still use my weber for regular grilling but "upgraded" my smoker from weber kettle to pellet. Weber kettle got a better smoke flavor but this is so much easier.
