Very unimpressed tonight with Grill Bar, was a lot happier last time.

Was unimpressed there last year too. Way over-rated.

Hey,

I have a trip planned for Israel and haven't been there in quite a while and trying to wrap my head around the hechsherim thing...

1. Reading the forums, I see conflicting reports/messages about different restaurants if the hechsher is a good one or not. and some restaurants  i don't see any mention at all. In NY I know all hechsherim and I'm comfortable eating at a place like Le-marais (which has only an OU glatt). Can anybody enlighten me on the matter? is the rabanut a total joke? does it need to have another "charaidi" hechsher? is that for milk (I need Cholov Yisroel) or also for meat?

2. Would the same apply to the breakfast at the hotels (outside of Jlem)?

3. In particular, I'm trying the three places I'm trying to see if the hechsher is good is: Decks in Teveria, Herbert Samuel in hertzlia, Blue sky in Tel Aviv.

If anybody can help me out and enlighten me, i would greatly appreciate it.

An important item to keep in mind is that in Israel some of the important aspects of the hechsher involve mitvos hatluyos b'aretz.

Thanks!

What would be the equivalent (kashrus wise) for those restaurants in NYC?

Would the same apply to the breakfasts at hotels?
RAbinut Mehadrin Jrslm is a reliable hechsher better or at least equivalent to the ou in nyc.

Decks does not have a reliable hechsher even thought you will see all types shapes and sizes there.

While you're definitely entitled to your opinion (even if it may not have any basis in reality), I haven't really found anyone knowledgeable in this area who will agree with this.

Any reviews of Rodriguez since it switched to Rubin?
I wasn't there prior to the hechser change so I can't compare, but I went last night. I found them to be overwhelmed and understaffed though I don't know if that was simply due to the time of the year. When comparing the old and new menus it's clear that everything went up roughly 25% in price. I found most things pretty good. Asado with teriyaki and the Focaccia were the best things I tried while the cheek meat was definitely the wrong cuisine for this restaurant and not the best I've had. Some dishes need small changes like serving a large portion of liver patè but enough toasted bread/cracker for 1/4 of it. There's room to improve in certain aspects but overall it definitely wasn't bad.

Agree. In Israel it really depends on the Masgiach on-site. Could be better or worse.

I tell everyone this over and over. Most people don't listen. You have to check often to make sure a place that's rabbanut mehadrin (especially for meat) still has the same (good) mashkiach.
I'm not who you think I am.

Agree. They are not equivalent at all. OU has a level of competence Rabbanut doesn't even begin to approach.

I agree that Rabanut Mehadrin isnt is good as OU.
OU has the same level and standards in all places under their hasgacha while Rabanut Mehadrin is all about the mashgiach's standards and not the hecsher itself.

Red heifer tonight. Skyline was voted down. Should've gone to skyline. Ordered rib eye. This is what I got. Nasty and grizzle riddled. Wuensch called me a liar and accused me of making things up. Not surprised (he did this me around three ago as well). Paid and left. Guess we can cross this place off the list. Wouldn't recommend at all. Will try skyline soon. Should've listened to you guys.

Yes, but never heard that Rabbanut Mehadrin is better than OU.. that’s a new one. And probably false.
